Apparently I fell off the bandwagon after I made it past Steamboat, so the remainder of my road trip went…Salt Lake City, UT, where Beau and I had both already been, but it was nice to visit again during a warmer month. We also stopped at Park City, which we had previously only seen covered in snow. The drive from Colorado was super unique. Lots of dry, but also lots of scattered reservoirs. From Utah we made our way to Reno, NV. We explored around the Bonneville Salt Flats – so strange, but so cool – and took a lunch break in Elko where I took the picture of Beau’s packed little engine that could. The next day we went to Lake Tahoe, CA. Made it to our final state! Beautiful lakeside surrounded by incredible mountains for hiking. From there, our route took us to Sacramento – Napa – San Francisco – Santa Cruz – (ROUTE 1!) – Monterey – Carmel – Santa Barbara – Fallbrook.
The drive down the Pacific Coast Highway was beautiful. It was the portion of car time that I was most excited for. I certainly was not disappointed. Beau and I made it to the San Diego area (Fallbrook is about an hour outside the city) in exactly two weeks. We really did have a good time, and somehow could still handle each other even after being in nonstop company.
Beau is now in his home sweet home, and after about a week and a half of eating my way through farmers markets, fish tacos, and probably one or two avocado trees, lots of wine, learning to surf, and catching up with friends, I flew back to New York and humidity.
